WREC Women’s Real Estate Club

Bonus Space

In preparation for introducing the idea behind WREC, I visited a home today.  I’m not sure how many blog posts I will write about it (maybe two or three total).  This post is about what I found that the agent did not include with the listing.

Let’s start by putting in a blue stone patio in front of the “two car detached garage”

Scala Al Paradiso

Scala Al Paradiso translated from Italian is “it climbs to the paradise,” and that can be translated to Stairway to Heaven. I was inspired by the staircase in yesterday’s classic home to search out other amazing stairways.

This one is very interesting – it reminds me of a book I read to my kids – “The Spooky Old Tree.”

There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she cant get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

Where To Live?

So….there is one lucky family that will be able to choose where they want to live when they buy this house.  I don’t know what I would choose, because I love what the possibilities are for the “bonus” space I found.

Main House

Main House

The “main house” has all of the traditional rooms you would expect to find in a home of this age (1926).  It is a center hall with the stairs directly in front and dining room and living room on either side.

Center Hall

Center Hall

I would take my cue from the exterior colors of gray, black and white and carry them through.  On the entryway wall, I would create a gallery wall of white/gray/black artwork.

I would consider painting the stairs white, the railing gray and carpeting the steps in gray and black.

I would definitely put this zebra print rug in the foyer that I would buy from West Elm.

A different shade of gray in the living room, and look how cute I would make those shelves look.  Benjamin Moore’s Copley Gray is a warm toned gray in the greige family.

Plenty of room in the kitchen to eat, so I would make the dining room a playroom.

What I really love about this house.

#1 – This bedroom wall.

A Window Seat!

A Window Seat!

Would love to be able to dress up the window seat like this.  Also paint the ceiling a soft gray with the walls a bit darker gray that would make a beautiful contrast with white woodwork.

OK – This is why I really love this house.

I found hidden treasures in the garage

I want these doors.

In the garage, someone used old doors as partitions – I want these!  And I am drooling over the work bench, even though I have never worked at a bench in my life (nor will I ever).

It All Started With Forsythias

animals.howstuffworks.com

animals.howstuffworks.com

Spring is in full bloom where I live in South Jersey, and I have been inspired by all of the forsythia that I see.  No….I don’t have any in my yard or in my house, but there is plenty to go around on the internet.

I found a tuturial on how to make a forsythia wreath

Or, if you prefer your forsythia in an umbrella

eclecticallyvintage.com

And then I got distracted and began to wander a little off course…..but not too much – I found rooms decorated with forsythia. – Love the drama of this centerpiece and combining the forsythia with lemons.

And then I find myself not only looking at images of forsythia, but now reading questions and answers on Houzz.

Where did the sofa come from?

Karen Evans I purchased the sofa from Pottery Barn several years ago. It’s the PB basic with a warm white denim slipcover. I’ve had it for 4 years and it still looks like new-that’s with 2 teenagers and a very naughty dog in the house. I’d highly recommend. It’s a great price and since you can clean it yourself you would probably spend less in the long run. I think it run about $1,100 before tax and shipping.

Then I found an image that was a resource where this coffee table could be bought if anyone was interested.

But then somehow I found myself looking at images combining yellow and gray in room designs.  I found this next image on Indulgy and always want to make sure that I can track down the original source…but I gave up on that for this image when it directed me to….ThirdAge.com – Health for Boomers & Beyond.  The article on “New Pap Test Could Prevent Cervical Cancer?” is something I will go back to when I have the time.

I spent a few minutes being distracted by the other photos of this home.

Then what happened – I found myself looking at furniture that was painted yellow and gray.
